Amino Analyser tests have been carried out on a number of samples of Aloe Arborescens preparations that were subjected to centrifuging and subsequent filtrations. There were 3 parts to the test: hydrolysis to liberate the amino acids, separation of the amino acids liberated, identification and quantification of separated amino acids.
Aloe Arborescens contains numerous amino acids: aspartic acid, glutamic acid, alanine, phenylalanine, arginine, leucina, isoleucine, lysine, histidine, proline, methionine, threonine, tryptophan, serine, glycine, valine, tyrosine.
As is well known, amino acids are essential for human beings as they make up the sequence of proteins but also non-protein peptics.
They are also used by cells as sources of nutrition and as a base for fundamental physiological activity. Amino acids are divided into essential and non-essential. Essential amino acids are thus defined because they are not produced by the human body but are assimilated from what we eat. There are 9 of these: phenylalanine, isoleucine, histidine, leucine, lisine, methionine, threonine, tryptophan and valine; all of these are present in aloe Arborescens making it a fundamental dietary element for us.
Compared to samples prepared on the basis of aloe vera, aloe Arborescens contained a higher level of proline, tyrosine, phenylalanine, histidine, arginine, tryptophan (see table I). phenylalanine is an important anti-depressant while tryptophan is important for metabolism of sleep. From the metabolism of tryptophan, melatonin is derived, this is a hormone produced by the pineal gland and acts as a sleep regulator. Added to this numerous clinical studies carried out in various parts of the world have shown that melatonin has positive action against the development of some serious diseases. Therefore tryptophan, present in important quantity in aloe Arborescens, associated with the assumption of melatonin, can increase and strengthen the latter. This was shown by a clinical study published in Nat. Immun. in 1998 on a group of 25 patients with various types of solid tumours (lungs, breast, digestive system, brain) not treatable by conventional therapies. The patients were divided into two groups: one took only melatonin, the other melatonin plus aloe Arborescens. In the second group the tumours stopped growing in 60% of cases with increase of survival in 37% of cases one year after the start of treatment.
This study shows an important factor the combined use of various biological substances in the treatment of pathologies such as cancer may be of particular help and benefit to patients without side effects.
